Taking the Pledge for Nature – Creating a Home for Wildlife

Supporting nature across our holiday parks, one habitat at a time.

Blooming marvellous site visit at Lodge Coppice Holiday Park

On Thursday 25th June, we were delighted to welcome Jenni from the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature to Bank Farm Properties & Leisure for our site visit.

It was a fantastic morning spent sharing everything we’ve been working on as part of this year’s Home Sweet Home challenge, while also discussing our exciting plans for the future. From new wildlife habitats to owner involvement through Bank Farm in Bloom, it was wonderful to showcase how much our parks continue to evolve, not just for our owners and guests, but for the wildlife that calls them home too.

Being surrounded by the beautiful Worcestershire and Shropshire countryside is something we’ve never taken for granted. As a family-run business with farming roots, caring for the natural environment has always been part of who we are, and taking part in the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Award is another way of helping to protect the landscapes we are so lucky to enjoy every day.

Creating Homes for Native Wildlife

As part of this year’s challenge, we’ve installed a range of new wildlife habitats across both Bank Farm Holiday Park and Lodge Coppice Holiday Park, each carefully chosen to support different native species.

Visitors exploring the parks will now discover:

  • Robin nest boxes
  • Treecreeper nest boxes
  • Swift nest boxes
  • Butterfly houses
  • Hedgehog houses

Each habitat is accompanied by its own educational information sign, helping owners and visitors learn a little more about the species it has been designed for. We hope these signs encourage everyone to slow down, look a little closer, and perhaps even spot some new wildlife during their walks around the parks.

Why Swifts and Treecreepers?

One of the projects we’re particularly excited about is the installation of our new swift nest boxes.

After reading the RSPB’s Priority Species Spotlight on swifts, we learnt that these incredible birds are now on the UK’s Red List of Birds of Conservation Concern, with populations having declined dramatically over recent decades, largely due to the loss of suitable nesting sites. As swifts naturally nest high up on buildings, our traditional farm and barn buildings provide an ideal opportunity to offer them safe places to return to year after year.

We’re also thrilled to have introduced treecreeper nest boxes. Following a recent sighting of these wonderful woodland birds in the nearby Wyre Forest, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to encourage them onto our parks too. Surrounded by mature trees and peaceful woodland, we’re hopeful they’ll feel right at home.

Helping Wildlife Starts at Home

This year’s Bank Farm in Bloom competition has also embraced the Home Sweet Home theme.

Alongside colourful planting and creative displays, we’ve encouraged every entrant to include at least one wildlife habitat within their holiday home or static caravan pitch. From bee hotels and bird feeders to pollinator-friendly flowers and hedgehog houses, it’s been wonderful to see so many owners getting involved and creating welcoming spaces for nature.

It’s a reminder that even the smallest changes can make a real difference, helping to create wildlife-friendly holiday homes while making our parks even more vibrant places to enjoy.

Explore Our New Wildlife Maps

To help everyone discover these exciting new additions, we’ve created a Wildlife Habitat Map for each of our parks.

The maps highlight the location of every habitat, making it easy for owners and visitors to enjoy a gentle walk while seeing how many they can find. For families, it’s the perfect excuse to turn an afternoon stroll into a little wildlife trail, with plenty of opportunities to spot birds, butterflies and other native species along the way.

We hope they’ll inspire even more people to appreciate the wonderful wildlife that surrounds us.

Looking Ahead

Although we’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved so far, this is only the beginning of our journey with the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature.

We look forward to watching these habitats become home to more and more native wildlife over the coming years, while continuing to find new ways to care for the countryside that makes our parks so special.

If you’re on park this season, see how many habitats you can discover, and too all of our holiday home owners & seasonal touring customers, why not get involved in this year’s Bank Farm in Bloom competition and help create another little Home Sweet Home for nature?
